- My name is Emily Humphreys, and this past fall of 2017 I completed my Gold Award Project, Voices of North Reading. This project was an attempted to shape media to better reflect the values, people, and diversity of our town. In order to carry out this goal, I recruited seven participants of various ages to answer a simple question: What events have most influenced you to become who you are today? I worked with NORCAM, to bring each of the participants in to record the stories they wanted to share. After recording, I edited each of the audio files into one succinct ten to fifteen minuet piece. I created a typed transcript of the audio, and wrote discussion questions to accompany each story. Finally, I worked to make the finished audio podcast and transcript available to the public. One of the key aspects of the Gold Award Project is sustainability and, in that spirit, I sencerly hope that the materials I have created continue to be used for education. The audio, transcript, and discussion questions are available at Flint Memorial Library as well as NRHS’s library. The audio is available on Norcam’s YouTube channel at the following link: https://m.youtube.com/watch?t=3778s&v=5YLytkTIWtk. If you think your troop members would be interested, please share these materials, especially if they are working on their MEdia journey!
